About Me

Hello! I’m Kristen

Hi, I’m Kristen! I love everything media (and dessert), especially the Great British Baking Show, classic rock, and 80’s movies.

Feel free to look around, learn a little bit more about me, and contact me if you want to chat about my work or something you see. Thanks for stopping by!

I grew up in Fullerton, Nebraska in a family of seven. Being the youngest of 5 kids meant I was always on the move and on to the next thing with my siblings. I frequently followed my dad into his workshop or the garage and was his second pair of hands while he tinkered on classic cars or worked on cabins. I kept my mom company in the kitchen helping with dinner, which soon turned into a passion of cooking and baking for me.

When I was fourteen, I was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE, EE), a chronic illness which causes damage to the throat and stomach. I was sick pretty often, and usually confined to the couch. I couldn’t do much when I was sick, but luckily I had movies to keep me company. Since then, my EoE has been better, and my love of movies has remained and sparked a love for all media.

What I get up to…

When I’m not going to school or working, I can usually be found baking a new dessert, driving in my ’66 Studebaker Cruiser, watching a movie, catching a Greta Van Fleet concert, or hanging out with my friends and family!

In the summer of 2022, I had the chance to visit my cousin Dylan and his wife Annie in Germany! It was my first experience flying and visiting another country (and eating international pastries too!). I hope to one day go back and visit, and also visit new countries around the world!

Where did you receive your undergraduate degree?

I’m currently in the process of finishing my undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska Kearney. I’ll graduate in the spring of 2023!

What did you study at UNK?

I started off as a Health Sciences major but changed to Multimedia my sophomore year.

Do you have any minors?

I have minors in both Media Production and Nutrition!

What was your favorite part of UNK?

My favorite part of UNK was joining the Antelope News team! I started the spring of my junior year and continued throughout my senior year as their Managing Web editor. It was a great experience!

What's your favorite type of media to work on or create?

I love everything media, that’s why Multimedia was such a great fit for me! Though I enjoy some types of media more than others, I am partial to videography and web design and development.

Do you have a favorite way to work?

I’ve found that I like to listen to movie soundtracks, specifically ones that are just instrumental so I don’t get distracted by lyrics. Some of my favorites are How to Train Your Dragon, Sherlock Holmes, War Horse, and Inception!

What are your plans after you graduate?

Currently I’m working with several professors updating and building websites. It was something very unexpected that I ended up loving! I hope to continue working in website design, and build engaging and accessible websites!

What's your favorite type of media?

It’s incredibly hard to choose just one! Movies and literature have a very solid tie for first place. I gravitate to them both for different reasons, but there’s never a day that I don’t consume both.
